Any salute to Filipino youth, as well as the youth of any nation, is certainly not complete without giving due respect to the earlier generation that nurtured them. (Video from youtube.com; posted by byissapie 04.10.09) The youth are indeed the future and next in line to lead the world. And ideally, “the fruit should be better than the tree”.Related to this, global tech icon Steve Jobs recently passed away but his legacy provides enduring lessons that the Filipino youth (and youth from all over the world) can benefit from, including: - “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life” -“Don’t be trapped by dogma- which is living with the results of other people’s thinking” -“Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice” -“And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition” Of note, even Steve Jobs acknowledged the importance of looking back – not just in the past but in terms of honoring the people who have been a part of any of your success. "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life." It is clear that any salute to Filipino youth is never 100% without giving honor to the ones responsible in nurturing and inspiring, ie, seniors and icons who blazed the path for innovative thinkers to thread upon. In essence, a tribute to Filipino youth is in itself an honor to Pinoy elders and icons who have laid the foundations for the future. |
