Most of the time, the virtual world or digital world is but a reflection of what happens in the real world (Video from youtube.com; posted by FigmentTV 05.22.09) Although there are aspects in the real world that may be dire, dismal, or say "progress-challenged", there are always avenues, such as tourism and the internet, that can provide the seeds for hopes and dreams of something better. For example, the virtual world, via one's alter ego or avatar, can serve to provide stimulus or positive vibes to encourage transformation of ideas into action. The virtual world can be and is actually a repository of our ideas, basically a digital monument in essence. A perfect example of course is the development of e-commerce opportunities to complement brick and mortar business or enterprises. For example in Second Life, there is that conceptual construct or perspective of the Philippines as an "island of pure bliss, unbridled fun, and endless recreation" which in a manner of speaking is like art (mostly) imitating life. Also, it has been said that whatever happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas. However, in a proactive model, whatever happens in the virtual or digital world may and can redound to something positive in the real world! For Filipinos and other citizens of the world, the digital world is more than just a reflection of real world scenarios, especially when used to bring to fruition hopes and dreams which importantly can lead to significant advances for a better life. |
