| Kabankalan: A Negros Occidental first-class city |
|
The first-class city of Kabankalan City in the province of Negros Occidental (with Bacolod City as the capital) in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines is home to close to 150,000 residents. As with other parts of the country, a percentage of the place's population has gone overseas such as the US, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe. Whereas before, it was merely a municipality, the townsfolk through their continued hard work and discipline have transformed Kabankalanon into a progressive urban center (it became a city in the mid-1990s). Notably, Kabankalanons, wherever they may be, stand out in their staunch sense of "family, unity, and belongingness". An example of this is their association called the "Ang Kabankalanon", an umbrella organization that joins together those who came from and care for Kabankalan whether they are in the Philippines or Asia or in some other parts of the world (eg, North America, Europe, Australia).(Video from youtube.com; posted by sexyqohusajay 02.20.09) |
