| Baguio Centennial: Time to mark 100 years for Baguio City |
|
Baguio City, the Philippines' Summer Capital, is celebrating its 100-year anniversary in 2009. According to baguiocentennial.com, the city of Baguio in the province of Benguet, the Philippines, has evolved from the times of the early Spanish settlers to the American visionaries who developed it from an early Ibaloi village called Kafagway. At one time in the Philippine's history, the Cordillera highlands of Luzon where Baguio is located were referred to collectively as Mountain Province, which has since then been divided into several provinces, including a smaller Mountain Province, Ifugao, Kalinga-Apayao, and Benguet. Aside from its temperate climate, Baguio is also a favorite tourist destination, especially honeymoons, and is the site of several topnotch educational institutions including the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and St. Louis University.
